Safety Data Sheets (SDS)

Proposition 65 (“Prop 65”) is a California initiative that became a state law in 1986. It is largely intended to help California consumers, residents and workers make informed decisions and take appropriate precautions relating to products that contain potentially hazardous materials.

Prop 65 requires the Governor of California to publish a list of chemical substances that are known to the State of California to cause cancer or reproductive harm. That list currently contains approximately 800 chemicals, including both synthetic and naturally-occurring chemicals. With some exceptions, if a business sells a product in California that contains one or more substances on the Prop 65 list, then a corresponding warning must be provided.

Prop 65 requires a manufacturer to provide clear and reasonable warning to a potential exposure to a listed chemical. This letter confirms that some stainless steel products and/or galvanized steel products supplied by Atkore International can expose you to chemicals including Chromium [hexavalent compounds], which are known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. The potential risk from these products would be limited to exposures during installation activities such as, bending, cutting and grinding, welding, etc. For more information go to Details regarding potential exposure to a Prop 65 chemical of Atkore’s products can be found in Section 15 of the applicable Safety Data Sheets (SDS) or SDS exemption letter.
